Another of the inherited 'mechs from John. This one was already assembled and based. It looks like he used a slightly larger metal hex base for this miniature and then filled the based with plaster. John was experimenting with that technique a lot, and while it's not one I employ, I did have an interest in following this example. The base came out mostly flat, with a fair number of creases and cracks that I could exploit in painting the base. He also mounted the legs in a walking stance, and of all the miniatures I've seen that he did, this is the first I've seen him do... and he did a nice job. Really, the only mistake in the assembly was that he placed the tiny waist piece in backwards, which is hardly noticeable, and, frankly, I didn't want to mess up John's work, so left it that way. Just wanted to finish painting it for him.
John liked this particular paint scheme. I remember he and I talking about it on different occasions, but he felt like the three colors were too difficult for him, so he opted out of painting this scheme. He painted Jade Falcon, Wolf's Dragoons (of course), and another scheme that was a metallic gold and silver. Not sure what scheme that was, though knowing him it did fit a scheme from Camospecs. I'll have to research it.
Those 'mechs were nicely done using predominately a dry brushing technique and were appropriately interred with him. Below is the finished work of his Marauder.
The main silver-and-gold paint scheme that leaps to my mind is Wolf-in-Exile's Omega Galaxy. Beautiful paint job, by the way. A fine tribute to a friend.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ryan! That faction makes sense, since he liked everything about the Wolves. It was odd that he and I never talked about it. Perhaps we just didn't have the time. I found out about it when I was helping his wife go through his belongings in his "man cave" (a.k.a.: "office").
