Guns of August: Refusal War, Sudeten Clan Wolf vs. Clan Jade Falcon

Here's the list of the units used for this scenario, should you like to try it yourself. The game ended up being very well balanced, with each side just brutalizing each other. Run time was about 3 1/2 hours, with mostly experienced players. Some pictures from the scenario at Guns of August is at the end of this post, as well as some commentary.

Clan Wolf (BV2: 21,692, Tonnage: 385)
  • Griffin IIC 3 (3 gunner/4 pilot)
  • Glass Spider (Galahad) 2 (3/4)
  • Warhawk (Masakari) C (2/3)
  • Annihilator C (2/3)
  • Stone Rhino (Behemoth) (1/2)

Clan Jade Falcon (BV2: 22,442, Tonnage: 385)
  • Viper (Dragonfly) A (2 gunner/3 pilot)
  • Timber Wolf (Mad Cat) Prime (3/4)
  • Night Gyr A (2/3)
  • Turkina Prime (1/2)
  • Bane (Kraken) 2 (2/3)
Terrain was for a coastal area, with one edge of the board being a series of small islands, while the shore was relatively flat with sparse trees.

This first picture is a few rounds into the game. The Wolves (foreground) took up a defensive position as the Falcons (further back) essentially charged. The Night Gyr, being the variant designed for short range combat, moved up as quickly as possible to bring its weapons to bear. It was backed up by the Timber Wolf. In this turn, both the Night Gyr and the Timber Wolf were destroyed by the sheer combined firepower of the Wolves' Warhawk, Glass Spider (destroyed earlier), and Stone Rhino. At this point, the Stone Rhino took a Gauss Rifle critical, which caused two head hits. Adding insult to injury, the pilot became unconscious, then fell and took another head hit. The Warhawk succumbed to head shots as well. The Falcon's Bane 2 was ravaged by fire, losing a torso. All of this around turn four!

Here, the Falcon's Dragonfly came forward to take out the Stone Rhino, lest the pilot regained consciousness. Targeting the opposite torso on the immobile Stone Rhino, and the Wolves lost their second assault mech. The Griffin IIC also moved forward to engage the Bane.

Another picture of this same turn, just from a different vantage point. Both the Annihilator and Turkina traded blows, doing huge amounts of damage to each other.

By this turn, the Bane is finished off by the Griffin IIC. The Dragonfly and Turkina concentrate on the Annihilator.

After the Annihilator finally falls, the Griffin IIC moves in with the hopes of taking down the now heavily damaged Turkina, if not the Dragonfly which was also heavily damaged.

Alas, the Wolves' Griffin IIC couldn't get an additional kill before the Dragonfly finishes it off.
